Wilson 00 Koa

Koa is a wood that players either know well or discover once and never stop thinking about. Hawaiian koa has a tonal character that sits somewhere between mahogany and rosewood: warmer and rounder than rosewood in the bass, with a clarity and articulation in the upper register that mahogany does not quite reach. On a well-made 00 body like this Wilson, those qualities are on full display.

The 00 format is versatile and forgiving. It is big enough to project meaningfully, compact enough to feel personal and responsive under the hands, and well-suited to fingerpicking, light strumming, and recording in equal measure. The figured koa on this example is also simply beautiful to look at.
