C1890 L.B. Gatcomb Standard 25 VIntage Banjo Serial #4457
From the golden age of the Boston banjo trade comes this handsome L.B. Gatcomb Standard 25, serial #4457. Lewis B. Gatcomb was a respected Boston player, teacher, and publisher whose Gatcomb's Musical Gazette helped fuel the late-Victorian banjo craze. Instruments bearing his name were built for serious players of the classic finger-style era, and this example shows why they remain sought after today.
This banjo is in very good condition, with honest age consistent with more than 130 years of history and no major structural concerns. It offers the crisp, articulate voice and quick response that classic-style players prize, well suited to parlor tunes, ragtime, and period repertoire. The Standard models combined dependable construction with understated Victorian elegance, making them excellent players as well as display pieces.
It comes with a period-style chipboard case, an increasingly scarce survivor in its own right that adds to the banjo's authenticity and collectibility.
A genuine piece of American banjo history, ready to play or proudly display.
