1938 Gibson Roy Smeck Deluxe Conversion FON 63d - SOLD

Sale price$13,000.00

“The Wizard of the Strings” himself, vaudeville star Roy Smeck, endorsed a line of slope-shouldered, flat-top Gibson guitars built for playing Hawaiian, or slack-key, style. These guitars were built with a thick, 12-fret, square neck. However, many of these guitars were converted to Spanish-style or standard-neck guitars for more modern playing and which, interestingly, increased in value after the conversion.

These guitars are dreadnought-sized, like a J-45, but deeper, with a 12-fret neck. These guitars have Adirondack Red Spruce tops with a sunburst finish and Mahogany back and sides. This particular instrument sounds like a great vintage guitar of its type should: warm, woody and loud without sounding boxy despite its depth.

The Wizard of the Strings knew what instruments to endorse. These guitars are loud, with deep, booming bass and a clear treble response. The Roy Smeck Deluxe is the favored songwriting cannon for Jackson Brown. This is your chance to own a fine example of this storied model.
