Milkman sourced about 50 original JBL speakers and had them rebuilt for a limited-edition run of amplifiers. The whole process was difficult and expensive, and in the end the amp stayed out of the regular lineup.

That changed in early 2025, when Milkman completed a faithful reproduction of the JBL speaker, the Milkman Alnico Speaker. Now the amp is part of the regular lineup, though availability remains somewhat restricted because of the time-consuming nature and expense of building it.

Build & Materials

Circuit: 40W Class AB via a pair of 6L6 power tubes, with adjustable grid bias

Speaker: Milkman Alnico D120 (paper edge), 8 ohm, a faithful recreation of the classic JBL K120, which is no longer made

Effects: Tube-driven spring reverb, with a reverb tone control

Cabinet: 12" combo

Size & Feel

Dimensions: 21" W × 9" D × 20½" H

Weight: 47 lbs

Controls: Volume, Bright, Treble, Midrange, Bass, Reverb, Reverb Tone, Preamp Level

Sound Profile
Built as a "clean machine," the JG40 maintains high definition, note separation, and dynamic response even when pushed.

Speaker response: The Milkman D120 is a faithful recreation of the classic JBL K120 Alnico speaker, which is no longer made.
